Celebration
When Meadowbrook gathers together for worship, it’s a celebration! We love to talk about God and what he has done for us. Every congregation's worship is unique. Here are some things that you might find distinctive about our Sunday celebrations.
We currently have three Sunday morning worship services: 8:00–9:15 a.m. 9:30–10:45 a.m. 11:00-12:15 p.m.
We’re here for God! We believe that when we gather as a worshiping congregation, God -- the greatest Being of all -- is with us! That is why our first priority in celebration is God himself.
“Something old, something new…” The praises and prayers of God’s people that are found in the Bible have been the foundation for Christian worship throughout the centuries. The Bible also contains instructions to “sing a new song to the Lord.” So we try to incorporate both traditional and contemporary expressions of worship in our services -- believing that the old keeps us grounded in what is tested and true and the new helps us maintain freshness in our relationship with God.
“With our hands lifted high” The Bible teaches that worship is the response of the whole person to God. Being creatures that are both physical and spiritual, we cannot worship God only with our minds and hearts. We must also worship with our bodies -- sometimes standing to show respect for God, sometimes raising hands in readiness to serve God and receive blessings from him.
“Drawing near to God” Most of the world’s religions try to approach deities considered remote. Although Christians also believe that God is “high and lofty,” they are convinced that God has come near to us through Jesus Christ. His sacrifice on the cross opened the way into God’s holy presence. That is why we pray. In prayer we come before God both to ask for his help and to receive the help he desires to give us.
“And now a word from our sponsor...” Because worship is an expression of relationship between God and people, a key component of it is listening to what God has to say to us. When we sing and pray we are talking to God. When we listen to a sermon, we are hearing God’s message for us today. The pastors’ sermons are always based upon the Bible -- God’s written Word for us.
We leave to serve the Lord Our worship service ends with a “benediction” -- a blessing that reminds us that God, who was present in our worship will be with us when we leave church. Having received so much from God in our celebration, we leave to share his love with others.
